The Kingdom of Fife An Illustrated Architectural Guide by Glen L Pride In good condition. Minor wear. Here is the Kingdom of Fife, in all its rich diversity, its unique geography and stormy history. In addition to the nationally acclaimed historic burghs of Dunfermline, Culross, Falkland and St Andrews, there are discoveries far from the tourist routes. The Guide roams the rural acres of west Fife, ventures up the Leven and Ore valleys, traverses the byways of the fertile Howe of Fife, prowls down the wynds of the East Neuk fishing burghs, and lingers in the north upland villages. The reader will find himself in celebrated company - Sir Walter Scott, Boswell & Johnson, Daniel Defoe, RL Stevenson and John Buchan. Buildings range from the hermit's cell to the cathedral, from weaver's cothouse to royal palace, and from horsemill to Longannet Power Station. They recall the seats of power and sometimes recreation of princes, prelates and tycoons; and the lowly environment of the 'toiling masses'. They reflect the ebb and flow of industrial prosperity from 13th-century coalmining to 20th-century microchips; the rise and fall of the fishing fleets and the coastal trade; the death of communities and the birth of New Towns. Famous architects are well represented -Sir Robert Lorimer and Reginald Fairlie on their home territory, their contemporaries Sir Rowand Anderson and Peter Macgregor Chalmers, and great predecessors like William Burn, David Bryce, James Smith and Sir William Bruce. The Kingdom of Fife is illustrated with over 350 photographs and so far unpublished prints and paintings. Glen L Pride was senior partner of a St Andrews firm of architects dating from 1850. He is the author of the Glossary of Scottish Buildings.

Consumer protection laws do not apply to your purchases from other consumers. More specifically, the right to cancel (section 29(1) of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013) and the right to reject (section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act) does not apply. Buyer’s rights are significantly reduced when a sale is carried out between two individuals. More specifically, the following sections of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 do not apply: goods to be of satisfactory quality (section 9 of the Consumer Rights Act) and fit for a particular purpose (section 10 of the Consumer Rights Act). Goods from private sellers do not have to be fault-free and if defects or marks were clearly mentioned by the seller or are visible in the seller’s photograph, then you do not have a case against the seller. However, if the seller’s goods do not match the description, you have the right to ask for a refund or compensation. Every purchase you make using the ‘Buy now’ button is covered by our Buyer Protection service.
