The 1964 masterpiece of Masaki Kobayashi, an epic horror anthology for the eras and Japanese language with English subtitles (see pics) Thai copy not HD. DVDr zone 0 (despite the 1 printed on the disc). Hence the price. Be comfortable with this, no returns. Epic in the visual department. The skill and artistry of the people involved cannot be overstated. It's a bit stiff and formal for modern times, but that befits both the time period and the culture it draws from. If you love classic and oriental cinema, you will love it, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Four folk tales. A penniless samurai (Rentarô Mikuni) marries for money with tragic results. A man stranded in a blizzard is saved by Yuki the Snow Maiden (Keiko Kishi), but his rescue comes at a cost. Blind musician Hoichi (Katsuo Nakamura) is forced to perform for an audience of ghosts. An author (Osamu Takizawa) relates the story of a samurai who sees another warrior's reflection in his teacup. More forgotten, minority, alternative, and / or ignored indie gems in my profile.
