Payment authentication
Authentication required by your bank
Your bank may ask you to confirm your identity for security reasons when paying with a bank card.
Authentication required by the payment service provider at Vinted
Our payment service provider may ask you to authenticate your actions when:
- Accessing your Vinted Balance or seeing your transaction history
- Paying for an item on Vinted or withdrawing your earnings
- Making changes to your Vinted account, for example, adding/changing a withdrawal bank account or updating your email/phone information
A pop-up screen from your bank or your payment service provider might appear, asking you to pass an authentication check or provide some details.
You may be asked to authenticate using:
- The PIN code or password of your device
- A code sent to you via SMS
- A hardware token
- Fingerprint or face recognition
The exact authentication method depends on your bank (or bank card issuer) and the payment service provider for your Vinted Balance.
For bank authentication, please make sure that your contact details in your bank are correct. Also, get familiar with the authentication method used by your bank — they should inform you about it.
Alternatively, you can avoid bank card authentication by paying with Apple Pay, where available. Apple Pay has built-in authentication, so you may be asked to confirm the payment using the verification method set up for that wallet or device.
Google Pay also has built-in authentication, but in some cases, your bank or card issuer may still ask you to complete additional authentication when using it.
For Vinted in-app authentication, follow the on-screen prompts in the authentication pop-up.
If authentication cannot be completed, the transaction or other action requiring verification (accessing your Vinted Balance) may be declined by the payment service provider for security reasons.
Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) — a regulation in the European Economic Area — requires all banks, including our payment service providers, to authenticate digital transactions and account-related actions.
Such authentication practice helps verify that it’s really you who’s making the payment or requesting certain actions in relation to your Vinted Balance and protects you from fraud.
Using this measure is required by law. For this reason, it isn’t optional and can’t be turned off.
