Lapidary is one of the most skilful jobs in the creation of fine jewellery and gem stones.
I use a selection of rotary tools (dremel) and diamond sintered burs, (bits) to clean, shape, cut and pre-polish my materials.
I adore everything about opal. There’s no better feeling than turning a rough rock into a potentially precious gem stone, that sparkles like no other.

As well as handcrafting beautiful pieces of opal jewellery myself, I reach out to the rest of the opal world, and purchase finely cut and polished stones from the following locations :- Bangkok, Thailand. Pimang & Jakarta Malaysia. Jaipur, India. Mermaid Beach & Gold Coast in QLD, Australia.
I also purchase rough and cut opal from a trusted seller from a well-known Internet shopping platform.
Please don’t hesitate to drop me a message if you’d like some advice in getting yourself a little set up together, so you’re able to cut ironstone/sandstone, potch and eventually your very own opal stone.
If someone would like me to take a look at an opal stone which they believe not to be real or artificial, then please don’t hesitate to drop me a message. Even with my short time in the opal trade, I can definitely spot a fake, as you start to get to notice the different patterns from different states in Australia’s huge opal story.
Good way to check if you think you’re opal may be fake, is use a magnifying glass, as most opal, ‘real’ opal stones always have small inclusions, which may come in the form of a small dot of sand or some other natural indication that the stone is from the earth.
I’m now able to offer a personal service, so if you wish to find a certain type of opal for a piece of jewellery, then please don’t hesitate to drop me a message.
I can also repolish a piece of opal jewellery you may have been left from a relative, or if a piece of jewellery is missing a stone, I can replace that and make that piece of jewellery wearable again.
I’ve previously replaced a stone in a clients grandmothers 108 year old gold and opal ring, which was truly an honour.
Final thought……if it’s cheap and looks too good to be true, then it’s probably not opal, or it’s synthetic opal. Always ask that important question before purchasing.
